GEORGETOWN — One man was arrested after he and two others broke into a house near Georgetown Friday but were scared off by the residents’ pit bulls, state police said.

Richard Cohen, 21, of Milton and two others about 11:30 p.m. broke glass in a rear door to get into the home on Sand Hill Road, said state police Sgt. Walter Newton. Once inside, the trio approached three adults and three children but were confronted by two pit bulls, he said.

When they retreated, one of the bandits fired a shot, which narrowly missed a child. Two of the suspects got into a vehicle, but Cohen did not get there before they drove off, Newton said. He was found in a wooded area about one-quarter mile from the house. A weapon also was found there, but is not believed to be the one that was fired in the house. Cohen was charged with attempted robbery and 11 other offenses and is being held on $98,500 bail.
